About

The Same Page Foundation has not yet been established.

The Foundation’s intended charitable purpose is to generate widespread wellbeing by enabling populations to take simple, pragmatic steps to end their social licence for systemic ecological, social, and intergenerational harm.

The Foundation’s design is the culmination of decades of contemplation by Simon Hertnon, an author and educator (ie, a philosopher) who loves language, stories, travelling, and meeting people of different cultures.

Simon, who is a Kiwi of mainly-Scottish decent, was born and schooled in Tauranga, but has lived in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland (the largest city in Aotearoa New Zealand) since 1995. He has also spent a total of five years living in the UK, and one in South Africa. Simon is married to Simone, another European-descended Kiwi, who he met in London in 1992. They are blessed with twin daughters, Gabriella and Pascale.

Like Cesar Catilina, the central character in Francis Ford Coppola’s latest film, Megalopolis, Simon asks:

Is this society — is this way we’re living — the only one that’s available to us?

Simon desires nothing more than to be able to answer this question for his daughters because, whatever the answer, we would have at least made a concerted, teamed-up effort to change our path.

If we do pause and come together to choose a better way of living, Simon thinks we have the capability and nature to be successful. He would love to play a role in such a joyous renaissance.

But first we need to shake off our busyness, find a shared focus, and make a start.

Again echoing the words of Cesar Catalina, Simon pleads to every fellow human:

Don’t let the now destroy the forever.

And that is why he has written the Same Page Manifesto.
